Vance: US strikes set back Iran’s nuclear program ‘substantially’

Vice President JD Vance emphasized on Sunday that the United States is not engaged in a war with Iran, but rather is focused on dismantling the Iranian nuclear program. Vance commended President Donald Trump for taking decisive action to set back the program significantly through U.S. strikes.

During an appearance on ABC’s \”This Week,\” Vance lauded the bravery and skill of U.S. troops who executed the mission. He highlighted the precision and expertise displayed by the pilots who flew thousands of miles on a 30-hour non-stop flight to deliver a 30,000-pound bomb on a target the size of a washing machine. Vance expressed his admiration for the troops and their role in achieving a core American national objective of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

The Vice President refrained from disclosing sensitive information about the mission, which reportedly involved 125 aircraft. When asked by ABC’s Jonathan Karl if Iran’s nuclear program had been destroyed definitively, Vance stated that while he could not reveal specific details, the program had been set back substantially. He assured the American people that Iran was now much further away from developing a nuclear weapon compared to 24 hours prior.

The mission’s primary goal was to destroy the Fordow nuclear site, although damage was also inflicted on other sites. Vance reiterated that the U.S. had engaged in diplomatic efforts with Iran before resorting to military action. Trump issued private ultimatums to Iran around mid-May, marking a shift in the approach towards dealing with the Iranian nuclear threat.

Regarding potential retaliation from Iran, Vance warned against any further escalation. He emphasized that the U.S. had conducted a precise surgical strike on specific nuclear facilities, targeting Iran’s nuclear program without causing unnecessary harm. Vance urged Iran to choose the path of peaceful negotiation and disarmament, emphasizing that the U.S. would not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon.

In conclusion, Vice President JD Vance’s statements underscore the U.S. commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons through strategic military action.
