Hamas ‘ready’ for ceasefire with Israel but not backing Trump’s 60-day plan

Hamas has confirmed its willingness to accept a ceasefire agreement with Israel but has not yet endorsed President Donald Trump’s proposed 60-day pause. Hamas official Taher al-Nunu stated that the organization is prepared to accept any initiative that clearly leads to an end to the ongoing conflict. However, the details of the ceasefire agreement are still being negotiated.

A Hamas delegation is scheduled to meet with Egyptian and Qatari mediators in Cairo to discuss Trump’s proposal. The Egyptian official has stated that Hamas has previously expressed its willingness to release the remaining hostages as part of a ceasefire agreement, with the condition that Israel fully withdraw from Gaza and put an end to the war.

On the other hand, Israel has demanded that Hamas surrender, disarm, and exile itself from Gaza. An Israeli official mentioned that the latest proposal includes a 60-day deal involving a partial Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and an increase in humanitarian aid to the region. The agreement would also see the release of roughly 10 hostages.

President Trump took to social media to announce the ceasefire proposal, stating that Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions for a 60-day ceasefire. He emphasized the role of Qataris and Egyptians in facilitating peace negotiations and urged Hamas to accept the deal for the greater good of the Middle East.

Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar expressed Israel’s commitment to reaching a hostage deal and ceasefire in Gaza. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing discussions and negotiations between the parties involved.

The path to peace in the region remains uncertain, with both Hamas and Israel holding firm on their respective demands. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, with hopes for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
