Carney ‘disappointed’ by Air Canada impasse, urges both parties to reach a deal

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Mark Carney says he is disappointed that Air Canada and the trade union that represents her stewardesses were unable to reach a deal after eight months of negotiations.

He insists on both parties to quickly resolve the situation that causes large Reischaos for Canadian and international travelers.

Stewardesses went into strike early on Saturday morning after the conversations had broken and the two parties did not reach a deal on Friday.

Jobs Patty Hajdu Minister referred the case to the Canada Industrial Relations Board on Saturday in an attempt to end the dispute through binding arbitration and said that the two parties were too far apart to reach a deal themselves.

The trade union that represents the stewardesses ignored its back-to-work order this weekend and started a legal challenge against the move.

This morning the Labor Board explained the strike illegally and ordered the leadership of the trade union to tell its striking workers back to work.
