RCMP says that bystanders, including an off-Duty Halifax police officer, a driver of a fiery car accident on Sunday in Waverley, NS, shortly before the vehicle exploded.

Emergency services responded at about 5:26 pm to a report that a car had hit a tree and caught fire on Waverley Road near the southeast side of Lake William, the Mounties said in a statement Monday afternoon.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Dartmouth, was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital with non-lifferring injuries, RCMP said.

Waverley Road was closed in both directions while care providers attended the stage.
