Omar Fateh, a Democratic socialist and Somali American running for mayor of Minneapolis, has come under fire for hosting a political rally in a foreign language without any American flags present.

The criticism comes after Fateh, who has drawn comparisons to New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, lost a crucial endorsement from the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL).

House Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., expressed his disapproval of the rally, stating in a social media post, “This is the least surprising news: There were hardly any American flags at an @OmarFatehMN rally. Instead, Palestinian stickers were prominently displayed.”

“This is the result of Democrats supporting a candidate who prioritizes other interests over America, provides benefits to undocumented immigrants, and advocates for defunding the police,” Emmer added.

Following the rally controversy, the Minnesota DFL withdrew its endorsement of Fateh, citing “significant irregularities in the voting process at the Minneapolis Convention.”

DFL Party Chairman Richard Carlbom stated in an official release that a review revealed flaws in the convention’s voting procedure, leading to the annulment of the mayoral endorsement.

Carlbom emphasized the need for unity within the party and a focus on electing leaders who will promote an inclusive economy.

Fateh’s campaign did not respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

Fateh accused incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey and his supporters of influencing the decision to revoke his endorsement, alleging insider dealings within the party.

Frey responded by expressing satisfaction with setting aside the flawed endorsement process and welcoming a fair debate on Minneapolis’ future.

Rep. Tom Emmer criticized Fateh’s radical policies and the DFL’s handling of the situation, asserting that Minneapolis residents are tired of backroom decisions and lack of transparency.

Emmer concluded that Fateh’s agenda was destined to fail due to its extreme nature.
