Zellers returns — again — this time starting in Edmonton

A New Zellers Store Set to Open in Edmonton’s Londonderry Mall
Exciting news for shoppers in Edmonton as a new incarnation of Zellers is set to open in Londonderry Mall. The defunct Hudson’s Bay Company has transferred the discount retailer’s brand trademarks to the owner of Fairweather and International Clothiers, paving the way for the opening of the new store.
The former Hudson’s Bay location in the mall will be transformed into a Zellers, with a soft launch scheduled for Friday, Aug. 29. According to landlord Henry Zavriyev, the store will be approximately 60,000 square feet, offering a range of household goods and clothing for men, women, and children.
This marks the first Zellers store opening in Canada, bringing back a beloved retail brand to the Canadian market. The quick conversion of the location from Hudson’s Bay to Zellers showcases the efficiency and dedication of the team behind the project.
New Ownership and Operation
While the owner and operator of the new Zellers location have not been officially disclosed, federal trademark registries indicate that the Zellers logo and trademark have been transferred to Les Ailes de la Mode, represented by president Isaac Benitah. Les Ailes de la Mode, a former department store, was acquired by Fairweather, a company associated with Benitah, who also oversees International Clothiers.
With the involvement of experienced retailers like Fairweather and International Clothiers, the new Zellers store is poised for success in providing customers with quality products at affordable prices. The collaboration between these established brands bodes well for the future of Zellers in the retail landscape.
As the opening date approaches, anticipation grows among Edmonton residents eager to explore the offerings at the revamped Zellers store. Stay tuned for more updates on the grand opening and what customers can expect from this iconic Canadian retailer’s return to the market.
