President Donald Trump, known for his background in real estate and appreciation for aesthetics, has signed an executive order mandating traditional and classical architecture as the preferred style for federal buildings.

The order states that federal public buildings should uplift public spaces, inspire the human spirit, and reflect the heritage of the United States. It also emphasizes the importance of visually identifying civic buildings and respecting regional architectural traditions.

President Trump had previously issued a similar executive order titled “Promoting Beautiful Federal Civic Architecture,” which was rescinded by President Joe Biden in 2021.

The president’s new order specifies that traditional and classical architecture is the preferred style for federal public buildings, with classical architecture designated as the default in the District of Columbia. However, other architectural styles are not prohibited.

The text of the order emphasizes that classical and traditional architecture are preferred, but alternative styles may be considered in certain circumstances.

President Trump’s order also highlights the importance of cost-effectiveness, dependability, and accessibility in building design and construction.
