Arrest Made After Dangerous Crash in Halifax
Halifax – Police have apprehended a dangerous individual following a series of collisions with multiple vehicles.
The incident occurred on August 31st at approximately 3:15 pm when law enforcement officers were alerted to a crash involving two vehicles in the vicinity of the 30 block of Fairfax Drive in Halifax. Upon arrival, one of the drivers spotted the officers approaching and “accelerated towards a power pole before speeding away,” according to a press release.
The suspect proceeded to run a red light and collide with several other vehicles while attempting to flee the scene. Due to concerns for public safety and traffic conditions, officers discontinued their pursuit.
With the assistance of the RCMP, authorities were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle on Riverview Drive in Tantallon. The individual was subsequently taken into custody and is now facing a range of charges.
The 30-year-old suspect has been charged with:
- Operating a vehicle while impaired
- Failure to remain at the scene of an accident
- Reckless driving
- Evading a peace officer
- Resisting arrest
He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Intimidation and Theft Incident
During the recent long weekend, law enforcement responded to a total of 1,052 calls, with one particular incident involving a woman being accused of theft.
The episode unfolded on August 30th around midnight, when officers were summoned to a convenience store on Duffus Street for a reported theft in progress. According to reports, a woman entered the establishment and demanded money before threatening to inject an employee with drugs.
A brief altercation ensued before the employee managed to exit the store and secure the suspect inside. The woman proceeded to hurl the cash register at the glass front door, shattering it in the process.
As a result, 29-year-old Kaily Kathleen Walkden was arrested and charged with:
- Robbery
- Making threats of physical harm or death
- Resisting arrest
- Assaulting a peace officer
- Violation of bail conditions (x2)
