Randy Moss opens up about prioritizing the ‘fight’ after cancer battle

Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss has always been known for his focus on faith, family, and football. However, after receiving a cancer diagnosis last year, the former Minnesota Vikings great added another “F” to his list of priorities: fight.
At the age of 48, Moss was diagnosed with stage 2 bile duct cancer. In December, he underwent major surgery to remove the mass, followed by radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Thankfully, the NFL legend is now cancer-free.
In an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Moss shared his initial reaction to the diagnosis, saying, “I was nervous. I just think that, when you live your life a certain type of way, eating right, taking care of your health, and all of a sudden you get diagnosed with cancer, it’s kind of like – I was overwhelmed. Just hit with a ton of bricks.”
Despite stepping away from his role as an analyst on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown,” Moss made an emotional return just two months later. He credited his wife for helping him stay strong and continue the fight against cancer.
Moss also reached out to his friend and Colorado football coach, Deion Sanders, after learning of Sanders’ own cancer diagnosis. Sanders, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer, had his bladder removed and was declared cancer-free. During a press conference, Sanders revealed that Moss had been a source of support and encouragement throughout his battle.
“Randy Moss called me every other day to make sure I was straight,” Sanders said. “Randy Moss prayed for me — he and his wife. Told me what I needed to be doing.”
The resilience and support shown by Moss and Sanders exemplify the power of faith, family, and fighting spirit in overcoming life’s challenges. Their stories serve as reminders of the importance of leaning on loved ones and maintaining a positive mindset during difficult times.
