Canadian relay teams claim gold in world short track tour’s 2nd Montreal stop

Canada’s short track speed skating team had a stellar performance on Sunday at the ISU Short Track World Tour in Montreal, winning four medals and dominating the competition.

The Canadian squad wrapped up their two-week homestand with an impressive total of 14 medals, including nine gold and two silver medals. The team’s success started early in the day with the mixed relay team of Steven Dubois, Kim Boutin, Felix Roussel, and Florence Brunelle taking home the gold in the 2,000-metre race. The Canadians faced tough competition from the Netherlands and Japan, but a well-executed relay by Boutin helped propel Brunelle to the lead, securing the victory for Canada.

This win was particularly special as it marked only the second time that Canada has claimed gold in the mixed relay event since its addition to the international circuit six seasons ago. The team’s previous victory came at the World Cup in Almaty in December 2018.

The success continued for Canada with the men’s relay team of Dubois, Roussel, William Dandjinou, and Jordan Pierre-Gilles defending their title and winning gold in the 5,000-metre relay event. The team put on a strong performance, crossing the finish line in first place with a time of 6:41.532.

Overall, it was a memorable day for the Canadian short track speed skating team as they showcased their talent and determination on home ice. The team’s impressive medal haul and dominant performances solidified their status as a powerhouse in the sport. Congratulations to all the athletes who represented Canada with pride and brought home the gold.
