US Election 2024

Bernie Sanders excoriates Democratic Party, calls campaign ‘disastrous’ after Trump victory

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., recently criticized the Democratic Party following Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election. The progressive lawmaker, who is part of the Senate Democratic caucus, accused the party of neglecting the working class.

“It should come as no surprise that a Democratic Party that has turned its back on working-class people would face the same treatment in return. Initially, it was the white working class, and now it includes Latino and Black workers as well,” Sanders stated.

Sanders highlighted the disconnect between the Democratic leadership and the American people, emphasizing the need for change. He criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign as “disastrous” and questioned whether the party’s leaders would learn from their mistakes.

Despite Republicans securing the Senate majority in the 2024 elections, Sanders, at 83 years old and serving in the Senate since 2007, secured another six-year term. He emphasized the importance of addressing economic inequality, healthcare access, and foreign policy issues in his statement.

The senator pointed out that real wages for the average American worker have not improved in 50 years, despite technological advancements and increased productivity. He also highlighted the lack of universal healthcare, high prescription drug prices, and the absence of paid family and medical leave in the United States.

Furthermore, Sanders criticized the U.S. government’s financial support for Israel’s policies towards the Palestinian people, citing humanitarian concerns and the suffering of children in the region.

In a tweet, Sanders expressed his pride in voting for Harris despite his criticism of the Democratic Party. The senator’s remarks underscore the ongoing challenges facing working-class Americans and the need for progressive policies to address these issues.
