Jewish group slams NYC mayoral nominee Mamdani for mocking Hanukkah video
Democratic New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani is facing backlash from a Jewish advocacy group for sharing a video that mocked Hanukkah Jewish traditions on social media. In a statement on X, Stop Antisemitism condemned Mamdani for his actions, stating, “Zohran Mamdani posts Indian men cosplaying Jews, spinning dreidels and lighting the menorah. Our holidays and traditions are sacred and not for your comedic pleasure, Zohran Mamdani – this is sick.”
Mamdani shared the video in December 2024 with the caption, “Happy 3rd night of Hanukkah from Astoria and Long Island City.” The video was originally part of the 2015 parody album “Punjabi Christmas Album Hits” by the Geeta Brothers.
This is not the first time Mamdani has come under fire for his views on Israel and antisemitism. The self-proclaimed democratic socialist has refused to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state and has voiced support for the BDS movement against Israel.
