Oregon nurse murdered while on European vacation by suspect she met at nightclub: police

An Oregon nurse, Mackenzie “Kenzie” Michalski, was tragically found dead during her vacation in Hungary after she disappeared from a nightclub. The Budapest Police Headquarters announced on Nov. 8 that the 31-year-old went missing after she failed to board her departing flight and left her belongings in her Airbnb.

Michalski was vacationing in Budapest with friends when she went missing. Authorities turned to security footage and identified a male suspect who was last seen with her in several clubs on the night of her disappearance. On Nov. 7, an Irish citizen was detained in connection to her disappearance.

The suspect confessed to meeting Michalski at a nightclub, dancing with her, and leaving together for his apartment. He admitted to getting intimate with her, which resulted in her tragic death. The suspect cleaned his apartment, hid Michalski’s body in a wardrobe cabinet, and then transported it in a suitcase to Lake Balaton, where he concealed it in the woods.

After returning to Budapest, the suspect was arrested outside his apartment. Authorities have not released the full name of the suspect, but he confessed to the murder, claiming it was an accident. He was seen on footage showing detectives where he had hidden Michalski’s body.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect had searched the internet for disturbing phrases related to disposing of bodies and police procedures. Michalski’s family and friends described her as a “light to our world” in a GoFundMe page set up in her honor.
