Elizabeth Warren gets sarcastic after Trump taps Musk, Ramaswamy for DOGE: ‘Yeah, this seems REALLY efficient’
After President-elect Donald Trump made the surprising announcement that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy would be leading the newly established Department of Government Efficiency, aimed at eliminating government waste, Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts wasted no time in criticizing the decision. Warren took issue with Trump’s choice to have two individuals co-lead the department, suggesting that it was redundant and inefficient to have two people doing the job of one.
In a sarcastic post on social media platform X, Warren remarked, “The Office of Government Efficiency is off to a great start with split leadership: two people to do the work of one person. Yeah, this seems REALLY efficient.” Despite Warren’s criticism, Trump stood by his decision, stating that Musk and Ramaswamy would play a crucial role in streamlining government operations, cutting unnecessary expenditures, and restructuring federal agencies.
The department, affectionately nicknamed “DOGE” by Trump, is set to work closely with the White House and the Office of Management & Budget to implement large-scale structural reforms and bring an entrepreneurial approach to government operations. Musk, known for his innovative thinking and outside-the-box solutions, has already reached out to the public for input on what areas should be targeted for cost-cutting measures.
“All actions taken by the Department of Government Efficiency will be transparent and accessible online for public scrutiny. We welcome feedback from the American people on where we can trim wasteful spending and improve efficiency,” Musk tweeted. He also promised to create a leaderboard highlighting the most egregious examples of government waste, making the process both educational and entertaining for taxpayers.
Ramaswamy, who previously ran for the GOP presidential nomination before endorsing Trump, expressed his commitment to involving the public in identifying instances of government waste, fraud, and abuse. He emphasized the need for drastic reform and urged Americans to participate in the government’s efforts to address these issues.
However, Warren did not limit her criticism to just the Department of Government Efficiency. She also took aim at Trump’s choice of Pete Hegseth for the role of Defense Secretary, questioning his qualifications for the position. Hegseth, an author and Army veteran with two Bronze Stars and a Combat Infantryman’s Badge to his name, had recently departed from his role as a co-host on Fox & Friends weekend.
In response to Trump’s nomination of Hegseth, Warren declared, “A Fox & Friends weekend co-host is not qualified to be the Secretary of Defense. I lead the Senate military personnel panel. All three of my brothers served in uniform. I respect every one of our servicemembers. Donald Trump’s pick will make us less safe and must be rejected.” Despite Warren’s concerns, Trump praised Hegseth as a staunch advocate for his “Peace through Strength” policy.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the appointments of Musk, Ramaswamy, and Hegseth underscore the importance of government efficiency and national security. With diverging opinions on the effectiveness of these appointments, the American public will undoubtedly be closely watching as these individuals take on their respective roles in shaping the future of the government.
