RNC files two lawsuits in Pennsylvania amid Sen Bob Casey refusing to concede race

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has taken action by filing two new lawsuits in Pennsylvania following a controversial decision by several state boards of elections to count undated mail-in ballots. This decision came after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled on the issue, prompting Democrat incumbent Sen. Bob Casey to refuse to concede the closely contested race to his GOP challenger, Sen.-elect Dave McCormick.

In a statement released by GOP Chairman Michael Whatley, he announced the filing of two new lawsuits in Bucks County and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to halt the counting of illegal ballots. Whatley emphasized the importance of upholding the democratic process and ensuring that Pennsylvania voters are accurately represented in the Senate. He criticized Casey for engaging in what he described as anti-democratic schemes to cling onto power.

The Philadelphia City Commissioners confirmed that several Pennsylvania county boards of elections, including Philadelphia, had voted to count a “relatively small number of undated and incorrectly dated mail ballots.” The RNC has filed a petition with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to challenge this decision and prevent the inclusion of these ballots in the final vote count.

This legal battle follows a similar case where the Pennsylvania Supreme Court sided with the GOP in blocking the counting of undated mail-in ballots ahead of the 2024 general election. An RNC official expressed frustration at the ongoing efforts by Democrat lawyers and officials to challenge the established rules and undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

The Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt announced that the unofficial results of the Senate race had triggered an automatic statewide recount. As of the latest update, Casey had secured 3,350,972 votes while McCormick had garnered 3,380,310 votes, indicating a narrow lead for the GOP challenger.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s ruling on the dated ballot requirement was praised by Republicans who have consistently defended this safeguard against potential election fraud. The GOP Chairman reiterated the importance of upholding election laws and preventing any attempts to circumvent them for political gain.

As the legal battle continues, both parties are gearing up for a recount process that must be completed by the end of November. The outcome of this race will have significant implications for the balance of power in the Senate, making it a closely watched contest with high stakes for both parties.
