Hostage video of Edan Alexander denounced by White House: ‘Cruel reminder’

The White House has strongly condemned the harrowing hostage video of Edan Alexander, a dual American-Israeli citizen who was abducted by Hamas terrorists during the Oct. 7 attacks. The footage, released on Saturday, shows the 20-year-old covering his face and crying, appearing gaunt and pale after being held captive for over 420 days.

In the video, Alexander is seen delivering forced messages to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President-elect Trump. The National Security Council (NSC) spokesman, Sean Savett, expressed the administration’s awareness of the situation and reassured that they are in touch with Alexander’s family.

“The hostage video released today of American-Israeli citizen Edan Alexander is a cruel reminder of Hamas’s terror against citizens of multiple countries, including our own,” Savett stated. He emphasized that the suffering in Gaza could end immediately if Hamas agreed to release the hostages, but they have refused to do so.

President Biden is committed to working tirelessly to secure the release of the hostages in Gaza, promising to continue efforts around the clock. The release of the footage coincided with a 60-day cease-fire agreement between the IDF and Hezbollah in Lebanon, highlighting the ongoing challenges in the region.

Alexander’s parents, Yael and Adi Alexander, have been vocal about their son’s captivity, sharing their experiences and interactions with President-elect Trump. They described how Edan remained strong and comforting to others during his time in captivity, giving them strength and hope.

As the situation continues to unfold, the White House remains focused on addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and working towards a peaceful resolution. The release of the hostages is a top priority, and efforts are being made to ensure their safe return.
