‘Make America Healthy Again’ caucus launched by Sen Marshall after RFK Jr meeting
Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., is set to launch a new caucus in the Senate on Thursday, called the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) caucus. The goal of this caucus is to support the joint mission of President-elect Donald Trump and his pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
As a medical doctor with over 25 years of experience, Marshall will lead the MAHA caucus in promoting healthy food, addressing chronic diseases, advocating for safer agricultural practices, and working towards expanding healthcare access. The Kansas Republican stated, “The MAHA caucus is committed to improving health outcomes by prioritizing nutrition, providing access to affordable, nutrient-dense foods, and focusing on primary care availability to tackle the root causes of chronic diseases.”
Founding members of the caucus include Sens. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., and Rick Scott, R-Fla. The MAHA caucus aims to work alongside Kennedy, assuming his confirmation in the new Congress, to swiftly execute the plans laid out by Trump and Kennedy.
The caucus will collaborate with stakeholders at various levels to facilitate key initiatives, mobilize support for priorities, and create educational campaigns to raise awareness about nutrition. Kennedy, who endorsed Trump after dropping out of the presidential race, has been making rounds on Capitol Hill, meeting with senators to garner support for his confirmation as HHS Secretary.
While some Republicans have expressed concerns about Kennedy’s stance on vaccines, agriculture, and abortion, he has been addressing these concerns during his meetings with senators. For example, Sen. Josh Hawley stated that Kennedy promised to reinstate certain pro-life policies at HHS. Tuberville, before meeting with Kennedy, planned to discuss food production and agricultural policy, and afterwards, mentioned that Kennedy aligned with Trump on protecting farmers.
Kennedy is expected to continue meeting with senators from both parties to address any remaining concerns, particularly regarding his past comments on vaccine efficacy. Despite being a vaccine skeptic, Kennedy has assured that he will not take vaccines away from people.
The MAHA caucus, under the leadership of Sen. Roger Marshall, is dedicated to promoting a healthier nation by prioritizing nutrition, advocating for access to nutritious foods, and focusing on preventative healthcare. With the support of RFK Jr. and a shared goal to Make America Healthy Again, the caucus aims to bring transparency, innovation, and transformative change to the healthcare landscape.
