Early-Morning Fire Displaces 99 Residents in Prince Rupert, B.C. on Christmas Day

An early-morning fire on Christmas Day forced nearly 100 residents of an apartment block in Prince Rupert, B.C. out of their homes, according to the city officials. The fire broke out at around 3 a.m. at the Sherbrooke Apartments on Sherbrooke Avenue in the northern B.C. city. The incident led to the displacement of 99 residents living in 36 units, the city said in a statement.

The affected residents have been relocated to nearby hotels and are currently receiving emergency support services. The city expressed their sympathy, stating, “Our thoughts are with all families impacted by the fire.”

The Salvation Army has stepped in to provide lunch for the fire evacuees. The city has also called on residents to donate food and essential items to the charity to support those affected by the fire.

As of now, the cause of the fire is under investigation, and the extent of the damages is yet to be determined.

Prince Rupert, a port city with a population of approximately 12,000 people, is located almost 500 kilometers west of Prince George.
