Drake sues record label for defamation over Kendrick Lamar diss track

Toronto rap superstar Drake sues Universal Music Group over Kendrick Lamar’s diss track

Drake, the renowned Toronto rapper, has taken legal action against his record label, Universal Music Group (UMG), in response to Kendrick Lamar’s controversial diss track “Not Like Us”. The defamation lawsuit was officially filed in a New York City federal court, with Drake holding UMG accountable for distributing and promoting the song, which he claims contains false accusations of him being a pedophile and incites violence against him.

It is noteworthy that both Drake and Lamar are represented by the same label, UMG.

This recent legal dispute follows Drake’s submission of two petitions last year, indicating his intentions to pursue legal action against the label. The court documents reveal a series of unsettling events that transpired after the release of “Not Like Us”, including multiple break-ins at Drake’s residence and a harrowing incident where his security guard was shot.

According to the filing, Drake and his associates faced a traumatic situation as they desperately tried to save the wounded guard while awaiting medical assistance. The document emphasizes that such grave incidents had never occurred during Drake’s lengthy career in the public eye, suggesting a direct correlation to UMG’s actions leading up to the song’s release on May 4, 2024.
