Ohio State player, TikTok star dismissed before national championship game against Notre Dame

The Ohio State Buckeyes have been on a roll in the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff, showcasing dominance throughout the tournament. After impressive victories over the Oregon Ducks and the Texas Longhorns in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, the Buckeyes are set to face off in the championship game on Monday.

However, the team will be missing one of its members for the title game in Atlanta. Caden Davis, a former walk-on player who gained popularity through his social media presence, has been dismissed from the team, as confirmed by Ohio State Sports Information Director Jerry Emig to The Lantern.

Despite never recording a tackle during his time as a student-athlete at Ohio State, Davis had amassed a large following on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. He often provided behind-the-scenes content of the football team and campus life in Columbus, Ohio.

University officials have not disclosed the specifics of Davis’ dismissal, but it is clear that his online presence played a significant role in his rise to prominence. Some of his social media bios still reference his affiliation with Ohio State football.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Davis hinted at traveling with the team to Dallas for the semifinal matchup with Texas in the Cotton Bowl. However, it was later revealed that the photos shared were from a previous season’s Cotton Bowl game where Ohio State was defeated by Missouri.

The Buckeyes last won the national championship in 2014, the inaugural year of the College Football Playoff Championship. Notre Dame will be their opponent in this year’s title game after defeating both Georgia and Penn State in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.
