WATCH: Protesters rally against ‘fascist’ Trump as he becomes 47th president: ‘Socialism beats fascism’

WASHINGTON, DC— Hundreds of protesters gathered in Washington, D.C. as President Trump was sworn into office on Monday, braving the frigid temperatures to speak out against what they believe is a slide towards \”colonialism\” and \”fascism\” under Trump’s term.

Gregory, who traveled from New Orleans to attend the We Fight Back rally at Meridian Hill Park, told Fox News Digital, \”I’m coming out because I think it\’s important to make a stand against the country\’s slide towards fascism and against war and genocide. We know the conditions are going to keep getting worse. We\’ve just got to keep fighting.\”

Maxwell, who came from Baltimore to join the protest, stated, \”I’m here to make a stand to say that we\’re not going away and that the dangers of poverty and wealth inequality, misogyny, discrimination against the LGBTQ community and immigrants deserve to have a voice. We need to end imperialism and colonialism and discontinue the oppression enacted by the United States government.\”

Many protesters brought signs and props, including a man with a large guillotine replica, which he described as an \”art piece\” that is \”open to interpretation.\” An inscription beneath the guillotine read, \”come get sum.\”

Mara, a transgender individual, expressed their reasons for protesting, stating, \”Donald Trump, with his extreme right-wing agenda, has labeled trans people as pedophiles and called for their execution. As a trans person, that’s alarming. He has been called a fascist by his own conservative generals. I’m here to reject fascism and say it has no place in our America.\”

The protest included speeches rallying to \”Free Palestine\” and end Israel’s \”genocide\” in Gaza. After the speeches, the group marched down the streets, where they encountered counter-protesters and engaged in shouting matches.

Despite the tensions, the protests against Trump’s inauguration were more subdued than those at the start of his first term and did not escalate to violence as they did eight years ago.

President Trump was sworn in for his second term, pledging to restore America to a \”golden age\” and calling for a \”revolution of common sense.\” He stated, \”My message to Americans today is that it is time for us to once again act with courage, vigor, and the vitality of history’s greatest civilization.\”

The protests in Washington, D.C. marked a display of dissent and activism against the current administration, as individuals voiced their concerns and demands for change.
