Canadian speed skater Dubreuil claims 500m bronze at World Cup in Milwaukee

Canadian speed skater Laurent Dubreuil made history by claiming bronze in the men’s 500 metres at a World Cup event held at the iconic Pettit National Ice Centre in Milwaukee. This achievement marked the first time in almost two decades that a Canadian athlete stood on the podium at this prestigious venue.

The race was dominated by American sensation Jordan Stolz, who set a new track record with a blistering time of 33.91 seconds, securing the gold medal. Dutch skater Jenning De Boo took home the silver with a time of 34.28 seconds, while Dubreuil crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 34.36 seconds.

Stolz continued his impressive performance by winning the 1500m event later that day, extending his winning streak to 23 consecutive World Cup victories across various distances. The 20-year-old from Kewaskum, Wisconsin, once again showcased his speed and skill on the ice, setting another track record at his hometown oval.

Dubreuil, a 32-year-old from Levis, Quebec, earned his second 500m medal of the World Cup season after clinching silver in the opening race in Nagano, Japan. Reflecting on his performance, Dubreuil expressed his satisfaction with returning to the podium after a challenging race in Calgary. He acknowledged the superior performance of Stolz while remaining content with his own third-place finish.

In other results from the event, Ottawa’s Ivanie Blondin placed seventh in the women’s 1500m, while Connor Howe from Canmore, Alberta, finished seventh in the men’s 1500m.
