2 new schools announced for Dartmouth and Bedford
The Nova Scotia Government Announces Plans for Two New Schools
The Nova Scotia government has recently unveiled plans for the construction of two new schools in the rapidly expanding areas of Dartmouth and Bedford. These new educational institutions are part of a larger initiative to build a total of 19 new or replacement schools across Nova Scotia, as outlined in the government’s $1-billion capital plan announced in 2023.
While specific details regarding the exact locations and grade levels of the two new schools have not been disclosed in the recent news release, it is evident that these additions are aimed at meeting the growing demand for quality education in these communities.
The current school year has already witnessed the opening of five new schools in Nova Scotia, including facilities in New Waterford, Springhill, Wedgeport, Tor Bay, and East Chezzetcook. Looking ahead, three more schools are slated to open in the 2025-26 school year, with one of them being a French-language school in Clare catering to pre-primary to Grade 6 students.
Additionally, two more schools, one French and one English, are set to open in the Halifax area. The English school will serve as a replacement for St. Joseph’s-Alexander McKay Elementary, with the new building being constructed on the existing site under the same name.
These developments highlight the government’s commitment to providing accessible and high-quality education to students across Nova Scotia. The construction of new schools not only addresses the pressing need for additional educational facilities but also underscores the importance of investing in the future of the province’s youth.
