Trump rattles off ‘flagrant scams’ uncovered by DOGE, takes aim at Fort Knox in CPAC speech

President Donald Trump celebrated his whirlwind first four weeks back in the Oval Office in a rousing speech before the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday afternoon. During his address at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Oxon Hill, Maryland, just outside of Washington D.C., Trump highlighted the progress made by the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in uncovering what he called “flagrant scams” within various federal agencies.

“I signed an order creating the Department of Government Efficiency – you probably haven’t heard of it – which is now waging war on government waste, fraud, and abuse. And Elon is doing a great job,” Trump proudly proclaimed, referencing the leadership of tech entrepreneur Elon Musk in overseeing DOGE’s investigations and audits.

Musk and his team at DOGE have been scrutinizing federal agencies to curb overspending and eliminate fraud, a task that has drawn criticism from Democratic lawmakers and government employees. Despite the backlash, Trump commended the department’s efforts in identifying wasteful spending, citing examples such as millions of dollars allocated for questionable initiatives like environmental investments in Africa and social behavior change projects in countries like Colombia and Uganda.

In a show of support for Musk’s work, Trump called on him to be more aggressive in his efforts to root out corruption and inefficiency within the government. Musk responded positively, pledging to follow the President’s instructions to hold federal employees accountable for their work and productivity.

As the CPAC conference continued, Trump announced plans to visit Fort Knox in Kentucky with Musk to verify the reported $425 billion in government gold stored at the United States Bullion Depository. The President emphasized the need for transparency regarding the nation’s gold reserves, recalling past visits by former leaders and officials to inspect the vault’s contents.

“We are also going to Fort Knox. I’m going to go with Elon. And would anybody like to join us? Because we want to see if the gold is still there. We want to see,” Trump declared, expressing a mix of curiosity and determination to ensure the security of the nation’s precious metal reserves.

In his closing remarks, Trump reflected on his administration’s achievements in its first month back in office, including efforts to combat illegal immigration, impose reciprocal tariffs on foreign trading partners, and dismantle what he described as the “weaponization” of the government under the previous administration. He praised the deportation of illegal immigrants and the restoration of American jobs and wages, vowing to protect communities from the negative impacts of illegal immigration.

As Trump concluded his speech, the audience at CPAC cheered in support of his bold leadership and commitment to upholding government accountability and fiscal responsibility. The President’s resolute stance on combating corruption and inefficiency resonated with conservative attendees, setting the tone for future initiatives aimed at reforming the federal government and ensuring transparency in its operations.
