President Donald Trump’s poll position ahead of his first major speech to Congress

President Donald Trump, known for his flair for the dramatic, is gearing up for a prime-time address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday. He took to social media to hype up the event, promising to “tell it like it is” in his first major speech to Congress during his second term in office.
As Trump prepares to take the stage, he finds himself in a stronger position in the polls compared to eight years ago when he first entered the White House. Recent surveys indicate that his approval rating is at 45%, with 49% disapproving, according to a national poll conducted by Marist College for PBS News and NPR. Another survey by CNN puts his approval rating at 48%, with 52% disapproving. However, other polls show Trump’s approval ratings slightly above water, including one by CBS News.
Since his inauguration on January 20, Trump has wasted no time in enacting a flurry of executive orders and actions, fulfilling campaign promises and making significant cuts to the federal workforce. He has signed a total of 81 executive orders, setting a record for the most executive actions in a president’s opening month.
In his address to Congress, Trump is expected to highlight his controversial actions, including cracking down on immigration, threatening tariffs on major trading partners, and reshaping the nation’s international agenda. Despite his high approval rating among Republicans, Democrats overwhelmingly disapprove of his performance, with independents leaning towards disapproval as well.
Political analysts predict that Trump’s approval ratings may continue to slip as his policies begin to impact people’s everyday lives. While his numbers are an improvement from his first term in office, they still fall below where President Joe Biden started his term. Biden’s approval ratings dipped into negative territory following his handling of the U.S. exit from Afghanistan and other challenges.
As Trump takes the spotlight on Tuesday night, all eyes will be on him as he lays out his vision for the country’s future. Stay tuned for live coverage of his address on Fox News.
