House Dems suggest Trump is trying to bring back slavery

In a recent live stream, two House Democrats, including prominent President Donald Trump critic Jasmine Crockett, suggested that the president’s policy agenda is aimed at driving Black people “back to the fields” to the time of slavery. Crockett expressed her concerns about Trump’s focus on immigrants taking jobs from Black Americans, stating that he wants to push Black people back to working in the fields, a practice that has not been done in a long time.
Democratic Rep. Hank Johnson also echoed Crockett’s sentiments, stating that Trump’s policies are designed to limit education opportunities for Black people and push them back to a time when they were picking cotton. Both representatives emphasized the importance of stopping this movement towards the past and preserving democracy.
Crockett and Johnson’s comments come amidst a backdrop of increased tensions between Democrats and Republicans, with Crockett recently facing criticism for calling Trump an “enemy to the United States” and a “dictator.” Despite this, Trump made historic strides with Black voters in the November election, with Fox News Voter Analysis showing an increase in support among Hispanic, Black, and young voters compared to 2020.
Trump’s crossover appeal to traditionally Democratic constituencies was seen in his improved numbers among Hispanic men, Black men, and men under 30. In Anson County, North Carolina, Trump won for the first time since the 1970s, receiving 50.9% of the vote compared to then-Vice President Kamala Harris’s 48.2%. This victory was significant as Black residents make up 47% of the population in Anson County.
Overall, the comments made by Crockett and Johnson highlight the ongoing political divide in the country and the importance of addressing issues of race and equality. It remains to be seen how these discussions will impact future policy decisions and the upcoming elections.
