Alleged drunk driver arrested after car crashes through brick wall of Dartmouth eatery

The incident at Sam’s Seafood and Grill in Dartmouth on Saturday night left the restaurant with a gaping hole in its wall, debris strewn across the patio, and a shaken owner. Despite the chaos caused by a car crashing through the fenced-in patio and brick wall, the restaurant opened its doors to customers as usual on Sunday.
Owner Sam Sotiropoulos, who leases the property, expressed his shock at the events that unfolded. “He drove straight down and he just hit my building,” Sotiropoulos said. The driver, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was arrested at the scene. The car crashed through a storage room wall, leaving a significant amount of damage in its wake.
Yellow caution tape cordoned off the affected area outside the restaurant, where bricks, wood, insulation, and broken car parts were scattered. Despite the destruction, Sotiropoulos reassured that the damage was not expected to impact business operations.
Halifax Regional Police responded to the single-vehicle collision at approximately 11:25 p.m. on Saturday. A 21-year-old man has since been charged with offenses related to alcohol-impaired driving in connection with the crash. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date.
The resilience shown by Sam’s Seafood and Grill in swiftly reopening for business after such a disruptive incident is a testament to the determination of its owner and staff. The community support and patronage will undoubtedly help the restaurant recover from the unexpected setback.
