DOGE says another $1M saved by converting decades-old technology at GSA

The U.S. General Services Administration has achieved significant cost savings of $1 million by upgrading its outdated information storage technology, according to a statement released by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on Friday.
DOGE announced that the agency, which is responsible for providing office space, transportation, and essential services to federal agencies, was able to reduce expenses by converting 14,000 magnetic tapes into modern digital records. This initiative is aligned with the overarching goal of the Elon Musk-led group to eliminate unnecessary government spending.
In a recent development, it was revealed that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) had been spending hundreds of thousands of dollars per month on website modifications before terminating the contract and assigning the task to an in-house staff member. Upon conducting a thorough review of data, DOGE uncovered a previous contract between the VA and an external vendor for website maintenance.
DOGE commended the VA for its cost-saving measures, stating, “Good work by @DeptVetAffairs. VA was previously paying ~$380,000/month for minor website modifications. That contract has not been renewed, and the same work is now being executed by 1 internal VA software engineer spending ~10 hours/week.”
Furthermore, the GSA announced its plans to save $4.5 million by optimizing leases and reducing unused office space. This strategic decision is expected to enhance efficiency and create better working environments for federal agencies to serve the American people effectively.
The GSA emphasized the importance of such initiatives in driving efficiency and maximizing resources for the benefit of the public. Despite attempts to reach out to the GSA for further comments, Fox News Digital did not receive a response at the time of publication.
Overall, the successful transition to modern digital records and the optimization of office space reflect the commitment of the U.S. General Services Administration to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve service delivery to government agencies and the American populace.
