Djokovic eliminated at Monte Carlo Masters, misses another chance for 100th career title

Novak Djokovic’s quest for his 100th career title came to an unexpected halt on Wednesday as he suffered a shocking defeat to Alejandro Tabilo at the Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco. Tabilo, who had previously defeated Djokovic at the Italian Open last year, outplayed the 24-time Grand Slam champion with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Djokovic, who had recently lost in the Miami Open final to Jakub Mensik, expressed his disappointment after the match, admitting that he didn’t have high expectations coming into the tournament. The Serbian star, who will turn 38 next month, seemed surprised by his performance on the clay court, stating, “I knew I’m going to have a tough opponent and I knew I’m going to probably play pretty bad. But this bad, I didn’t expect.”
Meanwhile, defending French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz started his clay-court season with a comeback victory against Francisco Cerundolo. After dropping the first set, Alcaraz bounced back to win 3-6, 6-0, 6-1, showcasing his resilience and determination on the court.
The day also saw other notable matches, including Lorenzo Musetti’s comeback win against Jiri Lehecka and Daniil Medvedev’s hard-fought victory over Alexandre Muller. Casper Ruud and Matteo Berrettini also secured wins in their respective matches, setting up exciting matchups in the later rounds of the tournament.
The Monte Carlo Masters, known as the first major clay-court event on the ATP Tour, continues to provide thrilling tennis action as players compete for prestigious titles and valuable ranking points. As the tournament progresses, fans can expect more surprises and upsets as the top players battle it out on the red clay courts of Monaco.
