Amherst police charge break-in suspect caught heading to New Brunswick in a stolen truck

AMHERST, N.S. — A 37-year-old man has been arrested following a string of break-ins and thefts in Amherst on Feb. 1.

Amherst Police Department says that morning, officers received reports of a suspicious person prowling around a residential area, who allegedly provided a false name to two officers on separate occasions after being located.

At the time, the suspect was not arrested and had received some assistance from the police.

Later that day, police received complaints of a person entering a private property, with the offence captured on several home surveillance videos.

At about 6 p.m., police received another complaint about someone trying to break into a house for stealing, but the suspect left when the complainant was on the phone with the dispatch.

An hour later, the police identified the suspect with video footage and tracked down a stolen bucket truck heading toward New Brunswick.

Robert Robblee was later arrested by N.B. RCMP in Oromocto and returned to Amherst on Feb. 2.

He has been charged with two counts of obstruction, break and enter, attempted break and enter, attempted theft, possession of a weapon, two counts of breaching a release order and theft of a truck.

He was remanded into custody to appear in court at a later date.
