\”It has come to our attention that there is a scam occurring where clients are having their direct deposit information changed to DC Bank in Calgary. We are advising you to verify the direct deposit information on file for every client and make sure that any changes are confirmed directly with the client.\”These memos suggest that H&R Block was aware of the fraudulent activity happening within their offices, yet they continued to allow it to occur.Warner believes that her identity was stolen through this scheme, as the impostor who filed the bogus return in her name used H&R Block as their authorized representative without her consent. She is now calling on Interior Health and the Canada Revenue Agency to take action to prevent further breaches and protect the identities of their employees and the public.\”This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed,\” Warner said. \”I don’t want anyone else to go through what I have gone through.\”The Fifth Estate reached out to Interior Health for comment on the breach, but they declined to provide a statement at this time. The Canada Revenue Agency also did not respond to requests for comment on the specific cases involving Warner and the other stolen identity victims. If you believe you may be a victim of identity theft or a hacked CRA account, please contact CBC News in confidence at harvey.cashore@cbc.ca or text or call 416-526-4704.
