Calls for the resignation of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have escalated as over 1,000 current and former employees signed a letter demanding his departure.

The employees’ letter pointed to Kennedy’s recent removal of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director Susan Monarez, accusing him of appointing “political ideologues” to key positions.

“We believe health policy should be evidence-based, not driven by partisan politics. Under Secretary Kennedy’s leadership, HHS policies are jeopardizing the health of all Americans, regardless of their political beliefs,” the letter stated.

“If he does not resign, we urge the President and Congress to appoint a new Secretary of Health and Human Services who prioritizes unbiased, peer-reviewed science in health policy decisions. Leadership must act when the health of Americans is at risk,” the letter continued.

Fox News Digital reached out to HHS for comment, but they did not respond immediately.

The letter came shortly after Senator Bernie Sanders also called for Kennedy’s resignation, citing his actions at the CDC. Monarez was removed by the Trump administration last week after she refused Kennedy’s directives to impose restrictions on vaccine availability, including COVID-19 vaccines.

Following Monarez’s dismissal, four senior CDC officials resigned in protest, citing anti-vaccine policies advocated by Kennedy. Hundreds of CDC workers showed solidarity by walking out of the agency’s headquarters in Atlanta.

In an op-ed for The New York Times, Sanders criticized Kennedy for endangering public health and firing Monarez for refusing to endorse his policies.

“Vaccines are safe and effective, a fact supported by the medical and scientific communities,” Sanders emphasized.

The Trump administration defended Monarez’s removal, stating that the president has the authority to dismiss individuals who do not align with his objectives.

“The president and Secretary Kennedy are focused on restoring trust, transparency, and credibility to the CDC by ensuring leadership decisions are public-facing and accountable,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
