Canada election: Carney defends his record at Brookfield, calls Poilievre a ‘conspiracy theorist’

Singh calls out Carney for taking advantage of struggling Canadians

During his recent campaign events, Jagmeet Singh has been shining a spotlight on the challenges faced by everyday Canadians who are grappling with the rising cost of living. One such individual is Michelle, a mother who is finding it difficult to make ends meet. Singh also met with a Toronto renter who was forced to relocate due to renovations carried out by Brookfield, a management firm where Mark Carney served as the chair of the board before venturing into Liberal leadership.

In response to a report by Radio-Canada’s Daniel Leblanc, Singh criticized Carney for his involvement in two green funds at Brookfield that were registered in Bermuda, a known tax haven. Singh accused Carney of deliberately evading taxes and prioritizing the interests of the wealthy elite. Additionally, Singh pointed out how under Carney’s leadership, Brookfield took advantage of the housing crisis by acquiring affordable properties and increasing rental prices.

With the NDP experiencing a decline in support, as indicated by CBC’s Poll Tracker, Singh acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead for the party. Despite these obstacles, Singh remains steadfast in his commitment to advocating for working-class Canadians and holding individuals like Carney accountable for their actions.
