Canada’s Leylah Fernandez bounced in Hong Kong Open semis

Canada’s Leylah Fernandez faced a tough defeat in the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open tennis tournament, falling to top-seeded Diana Shnaider of Russia with a score of 6-4, 6-2. Despite being the third seed in the tournament, Fernandez struggled to find her rhythm on the court.

During the match, Fernandez managed to record two aces but also committed four double faults, highlighting her inconsistency throughout the game. She struggled with her first serves, only winning 54.3% of them, which put her at a disadvantage against the strong performance of Shnaider.

Although Fernandez was able to convert two out of three break points, she struggled to save only three out of eight break points against her opponent. The 22-year-old player from Laval, Quebec, put up a good fight but ultimately fell short in her bid to reach the final of the tournament.

Shnaider’s victory over Fernandez secured her a spot in the final, where she will face off against second-seeded Katie Boulter of Britain. The final match promises to be an exciting showdown between two talented players vying for the title at the Victoria Park Tennis Centre.

Meanwhile, in the Paris Masters, Alexander Zverev advanced to the final for the second time after defeating former champion Holger Rune with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (4). Zverev, a runner-up in the tournament in 2020, will now face either Karen Khachanov or Ugo Humbert in the final.

A win in the final would give Zverev his seventh Masters title and propel him past top-ranked Jannik Sinner for the most wins on the ATP tour this year. Despite his heavy schedule and rigorous training regimen, Zverev is determined to improve his game and close the gap on players like Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner.

Zverev acknowledges the talent and success of his competitors, recognizing the achievements of Sinner and Alcaraz in winning major titles. As he continues to strive for greatness on the court, Zverev remains focused on honing his skills and competing at the highest level.

With his sights set on securing his second title of the year and 23rd overall, Zverev is determined to put on a strong performance in the final. As he prepares to face tough competition in the tournament, Zverev remains confident in his abilities and looks forward to the challenge ahead.
