Canadian speed skaters take silver in women’s team sprint at world championship

Canada’s Brooklyn McDougall, Beatrice Lamarche, and Ivanie Blondin made a strong start at the ISU World Speed Skating Championships by winning silver in the women’s team sprint event. The trio finished with an impressive time of 1 minute 27.23 seconds, showcasing their skill and teamwork in their first race together.

McDougall stepped in as a late replacement for Carolina Hiller, who was unable to compete, but the team did not miss a beat. Lamarche expressed her confidence in McDougall and their ability to skate well together, highlighting their experience in the discipline. Despite the challenging circumstances, the Canadian team put on a stellar performance and secured the silver medal.

The Dutch team claimed the gold medal with a time of 1:25.57, while the Polish team took home the bronze in 1:27.80. On the men’s side, the Canadian team consisting of Laurent Dubreuil, Anders Johnson, and Connor Howe finished in sixth place.

In the long-track competition, Valerie Maltais was the top Canadian finisher in the women’s 3,000 meters, coming in sixth place. Ted-Jan Bloemen represented Canada in the men’s 5,000 meters and finished in seventh place.
