MOMS Act aims to provide key resources to mothers in the US

Sen. Katie Britt, a Republican from Alabama, is set to introduce the MOMS (More Opportunities for Mothers to Succeed) Act on Tuesday, just in time for Mother’s Day. This bill aims to provide crucial support to mothers, both before and after giving birth, as the number of births in the U.S. hit a record low in 2023, the lowest since the Carter administration, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital, Sen. Britt emphasized that the Republican Party is dedicated to supporting life, parents, and families. She stated, “At the heart of the MOMS Act is building a comprehensive culture of life to give moms, children, and families the support system they need to thrive and live their American Dream.”

As a mother herself, Sen. Britt understands the challenges that women face during pregnancy and while raising children. She expressed her pride in supporting women throughout their motherhood journey and highlighted the MOMS Act as a testament to her ongoing commitment to advocate for mothers.

Joining Sen. Britt on the bill are Sen. Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee, as well as several male senators including Jim Justice, Steve Daines, Kevin Cramer, David McCormick, and Charles Grassley. Sen. McCormick praised the bill as a “pro-family effort” and raised concerns about the alarmingly low birth and fertility rates in the U.S.

The MOMS Act includes provisions to establish a new online resource, “pregnancy-dot-gov,” to help expectant and post-partum mothers access adoption agencies, pregnancy resource centers, and other assistance based on their ZIP code. It also includes a grant program to support rural communities, particularly in states like Alabama where over 20 counties lack adequate maternity care services.

Sen. Britt’s previous attempt to pass the MOMS Act was thwarted by Democrats who misrepresented the bill as creating a federal pregnancy database. The 2025 version of the bill also incorporates the Unborn Child Support Act introduced by Sen. Cramer to enable state governments to enforce child support obligations during pregnancy.

While no Democrats have publicly supported the MOMS Act yet, Sen. Tim Kaine from Virginia recently co-sponsored the Child Care Availability and Affordability Act with Sen. Britt to enhance tax credits for daycare expenses.

In conclusion, the MOMS Act is a vital piece of legislation aimed at supporting mothers and families across the country. Sen. Britt and her colleagues are working tirelessly to ensure that mothers receive the necessary resources and assistance to thrive during the critical stages of motherhood.
