Carney talks trade with U.S. Vice-President JD Vance in Rome

U.S. Vice-President JD Vance and Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada met in Rome on Sunday to discuss fair trade policies and work towards resolving a dispute over tariffs. The meeting, which took place amid efforts to secure borders and combat the influx of fentanyl, also focused on increasing investments in defence and security.

In a statement released by Vance’s office, it was highlighted that both leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration and maintaining a strong economic and security relationship. Carney echoed these sentiments, stating that “we’re strongest when we work together.” The leaders agreed to stay in contact and continue working towards addressing the trade pressures facing their nations.

The meeting between Vance and Carney was part of a series of discussions held by global leaders attending Pope Leo XIV’s inaugural mass in Rome. The event provided an opportunity for leaders to come together and discuss key issues ahead of the upcoming G7 summit in Alberta.

As the two nations navigate through trade disputes and security challenges, the meeting between Vance and Carney serves as a reminder of the importance of cooperation and diplomacy in addressing global issues. By working together, they aim to build a stronger economic and security partnership that benefits both countries.
