Jacobs, McEwen, Gushue post victories to remain unbeaten at Brier

The Alberta team led by Brad Jacobs at the Montana’s Brier is a force to be reckoned with. With a combination of experience and championship pedigree, this four-man team offers a study in contrasts that sets them apart from the competition.

Lead Ben Hebert brings intensity and raw sweeping power that few can match. Brett Gallant’s chiseled frame allows him to work the broom with precision, and his shooting game is top-notch. Vice Marc Kennedy adds a boyish charm to the team, along with impressive table-setting skills for Jacobs, who has guided the Calgary-based team to a flawless 4-0 start at Prospera Place in Kelowna, B.C.

Their latest victories came with a 6-3 win over Saskatchewan’s Rylan Kleiter and a 7-3 victory over Nova Scotia’s Owen Purcell. The team’s performance on the ice has been near perfection, with Jacobs leading the charge with a near-flawless 97 percent shooting percentage.

Their communication on the ice has been on point, and their technical game is in top form. With nearly 500 combined Brier game wins between the four Olympians, they know what it takes to succeed in high-pressure situations.

The team brought in coach Paul Webster in 2022 to help them navigate the season with the goal of winning the Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials in November. Jacobs joined the team this season as a replacement for Brendan Bottcher, and the squad took some time to find their rhythm. But with hard work and dedication, they have continued to improve and build their chemistry on the ice.

Off the ice, the team shares a strong bond and camaraderie, enjoying their time together with games of cards and plenty of Bublys. Despite their success and experience, they remain humble and committed to constantly challenging themselves and striving for improvement.
