‘Bring it on’: Sheriff pushes back after blue state leaders sues to stop immigration enforcement

Klickitat County Sheriff Bob Songer is not holding back when it comes to calling out what he sees as the “lunacy” of Democratic leadership in Washington State. He recently spoke out against state Attorney General Nick Brown’s decision to file a lawsuit against the Adams County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly collaborating with federal officials on immigration enforcement.
Sheriff Songer, a staunch supporter of enforcing immigration laws, stated, “They honestly feel that they can just run over everybody. Bring it on, I’ll fight them.” He expressed his support for Sheriff Dale Wagner of Adams County, who is facing legal action for allegedly violating the Keep Washington Working Act by holding illegal immigrants in custody and cooperating with federal agents.
The lawsuit filed by Attorney General Brown claims that the Adams County Sheriff’s Office’s actions violate state law and seeks to force compliance with sanctuary policies. This legal battle comes in the wake of U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks announcing a successful partnership with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office in apprehending a Mexican national suspected of illegal firearms dealing.
Sheriff Songer believes that the lawsuit is part of a larger effort by Washington State Democrats, including Governor Bob Ferguson, to intimidate sheriffs into complying with sanctuary policies. He revealed that his office has faced pressure from individuals seeking his communications with federal authorities, indicating a broader attempt to undermine cooperation with ICE.
In response to the legal threats and intimidation, Sheriff Songer remains steadfast in his commitment to upholding the law. He dismissed the lawsuit as “flat ridiculous” and urged his fellow sheriffs to resist unconstitutional mandates. He emphasized the importance of following the Constitution and putting the safety of citizens first.
Sheriff Songer concluded by expressing his hope for former ICE Director Tom Homan to intervene in Washington State’s sanctuary policies. He believes that Governor Ferguson, Attorney General Brown, and other elected officials may be in violation of federal law and should be held accountable.
As the debate over immigration enforcement continues to divide Washington State, Sheriff Songer remains a vocal advocate for upholding the rule of law and protecting the interests of residents. His defiance against political pressure serves as a reminder of the ongoing tensions between state and federal immigration policies.
