DHS approves waivers for dozens of miles of border wall construction

The Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has given the green light for the construction of an additional 36 miles of border wall in Arizona and New Mexico. The waivers issued by Noem will allow for the bypassing of certain environmental regulations in order to expedite the construction process.

Tricia McLaughlin, the DHS Assistant Secretary, stated that the department has been working diligently to secure the border and remove criminal illegal aliens from the country. The projects covered by the waivers include filling gaps in the Yuma Sector, advancements in the El Paso Sector, and 24 miles as part of the Tucson Sonoita Project. These projects had funds allocated in the 2020-21 appropriations for Customs and Border Protection.

Yuma County Supervisor and Chairman of the Border Security Alliance, Jonathan Lines, expressed gratitude for the decision, stating that the community in Yuma is still dealing with the consequences of the previous administration’s open-border policies. He commended President Trump’s commitment to border security and emphasized the need for continued support for the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.

In addition to the recent waivers, further construction of the border wall in California was given the green light in April. During the Biden administration, border wall construction was largely halted, leading to gaps in the barriers that have been exploited by illegal immigrants and cartels.

Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen praised the decision to continue with the wall construction, attributing the safety and security of the border to the Trump administration’s efforts. Critics of the wall construction have raised concerns about the environmental impact of the project, citing potential harm to ecosystems and cultural resources.

Despite the opposition, the DHS is moving forward with the construction, aiming to strengthen national security and protect American citizens. The completion of the border wall is seen as vital in restoring sanity and the rule of law in the nation. The focus remains on securing the border and preventing illegal crossings through effective border infrastructure.

The waivers granted by Secretary Noem will allow for the swift progress of the construction projects, ensuring that the border is fortified and protected. The ongoing efforts to secure the border reflect a commitment to upholding national security and enforcing immigration laws.
