NC State basketball fires head coach Kevin Keatts

After an impressive eight-year run as the head coach of the N.C. State men’s basketball team, Kevin Keatts’ time with the Wolfpack has come to an abrupt end. The university announced on Sunday that they would be parting ways with Keatts, just months after he led the team to an Atlantic Coast Conference championship and a Final Four appearance.
Despite the success of the 2023-24 season, where N.C. State finished with a 12-19 record in the 2024-25 regular season, the decision was made to move on from Keatts. Athletic director Boo Corrigan released a statement expressing gratitude for Keatts’ contributions and recognizing the team’s deep run in the NCAA tournament.
In response to the news, Keatts took to social media to reflect on his time with the program, calling it “a dream come true.” He expressed confidence in leaving the program in a better position for future success.
During his tenure, Keatts amassed a record of 151-113, with three NCAA Tournament appearances. However, the team struggled this season, finishing with a 5-15 record in ACC play. The retooling of the team through the transfer portal did not yield the desired results, leading to the decision to part ways with Keatts.
Throughout his time at N.C. State, Keatts faced challenges both on and off the court, navigating a federal corruption investigation tied to his predecessor’s tenure. Despite these obstacles, Keatts was able to stabilize the program and lead the team to success.
As the program looks towards the future, they will begin the search for a new head coach to lead the Wolfpack. Keatts’ departure marks the end of an era for N.C. State basketball, but the program remains optimistic about what lies ahead.
