Hamilton’s Alena Sharp enjoys her 20th ladies open

Alena Sharp, the 44-year-old Canadian golfer, is gearing up for her 20th CPKC Women’s Open at the Mississaugua Golf and Country Club. Despite facing challenges in recent seasons, Sharp is determined to continue her career on the LPGA tour.
During a press conference, Sharp revealed that she had initially considered retiring after this year’s events. However, she expressed her love for the game and her desire to improve every day. She mentioned that while the journey may be more challenging now, she still enjoys playing and isn’t ready to hang up her clubs just yet.
Sharp made her open debut 21 years ago at Legends on the Niagara in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Reflecting on her journey, she shared memories of playing alongside legendary golfers like Juli Inkster and Gail Graham.
With 16 Canadians competing in this year’s National Open, including aspiring amateurs and seasoned professionals, the Canadian golf scene is thriving. Players like Savannah Grewal, the second-highest ranked Canadian on the LPGA Tour, are making their mark on the international stage.
Grewal, along with Sharp, young pro Anna Huang, and top-ranked Brooke Henderson, is part of a talented group representing Canada at the tournament. The support from Golf Canada and the emergence of promising young talent indicate a bright future for Canadian golf on the global stage.
Joining the professional ranks are Maude-Aimee Leblanc and Monet Chun, while a group of talented amateurs, including Lauren Kim, Aphrodite Deng, and Vanessa Borovilos, are also vying for success on the course.
As the CPKC Women’s Open kicks off, all eyes will be on these Canadian golfers as they showcase their skills and strive for success in this prestigious event. With a mix of experience and youth, the future looks promising for Canadian golf on the international stage.
