Dolphins’ Jonnu Smith trade garners criticism from former player

Las Vegas Raiders running back Raheem Mostert didn’t hold back his feelings after his former team, the Miami Dolphins, traded Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mostert took to social media to share his thoughts on the trade, expressing his disappointment with how the Dolphins treated Smith despite his Pro Bowl season in 2023.
Mostert, who played for the Dolphins from 2022 to 2024, had a standout year in 2023 with over 1,000 rushing yards and an NFL-leading 18 touchdowns. However, injuries plagued his 2024 season, limiting his production on the field. In the offseason, Mostert signed with the Raiders, joining a new team with high hopes for the upcoming season.
Smith, a veteran tight end, earned his first Pro Bowl nod in 2024 after a stellar season with the Dolphins. His 88 catches, 884 yards, and eight touchdowns were either career highs or tied career highs for him. Now, Smith is set to play for his fourth team in four years and fifth team in nine years as he joins the Steelers.
The trade between the Dolphins and Steelers also involved Jalen Ramsey and Minkah Fitzpatrick, with draft picks included in the deal. The Dolphins, who finished the season with an 8-9 record and missed the playoffs, are looking to make changes to improve their roster for the upcoming season.
As Mostert prepares for the upcoming season with the Raiders, he is eager to see his former teammates succeed and hopes they will continue to excel in their careers. With a new team and new opportunities ahead, Mostert is focused on making an impact on the field and helping the Raiders achieve success in the upcoming season.
