South Carolina drunk driver arrested in December was deported 3 times: affidavit

An illegal immigrant with a long history of criminal activity in the United States has been indicted by a grand jury in South Carolina for re-entering the country without authorization. Sergio Ixtepan-Toto, a 36-year-old Mexican national, was arrested in December 2024 for driving under the influence in Pickens, South Carolina.
According to reports, Ixtepan-Toto nearly collided with another vehicle on West Main Street in Pickens, prompting a police officer to attempt a traffic stop. Despite running a stop sign and evading officers, Ixtepan-Toto was eventually apprehended in a store parking lot. During the arrest, law enforcement officials discovered multiple open beer cans in his vehicle and determined that he failed a field sobriety test.
Following his arrest, it was revealed that Ixtepan-Toto had been deported three times in the past. An affidavit filed by a deportation officer stated that he was removed from the country in May 2020, November 2022, and February 2024. Despite his previous deportations, there was no record of Ixtepan-Toto seeking permission to re-enter the United States.
Ixtepan-Toto’s criminal record in South Carolina dates back to 2008 and includes charges such as speeding, driving without a license, domestic violence, and indecent exposure. Notably, he has been arrested four times prior to the recent drunk driving incident.
The case of Sergio Ixtepan-Toto highlights the challenges posed by repeat offenders who continue to enter the country illegally and engage in criminal behavior. The incident underscores the importance of border security and immigration enforcement in safeguarding communities from individuals who pose a threat to public safety.
