House Republicans dismiss Elon Musk’s primary threats over Trump bill

House Republicans are facing pressure from tech billionaire Elon Musk as they push forward with President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.” Musk, who previously worked with the Department of Government Efficiency under Trump, has been vocal in his criticism of the bill, particularly its $3.3 trillion price tag and its impact on the national debt.
Despite Musk’s threats to support primary challengers against Republicans who vote for the bill, many House Republicans are undeterred. They are focused on passing the legislation after hours of delays and negotiations. Rep. Buddy Carter of Georgia acknowledged Musk’s past contributions but emphasized the importance of moving forward with the bill.
Rep. Tim Walberg of Michigan echoed this sentiment, stating that he is not worried about Musk and that the bill addresses key issues that Musk did not tackle during his time at the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk, on the other hand, has taken issue with the Senate’s changes to the bill, which he believes will add trillions to the deficit.
House Republicans are confident that the bill will pass despite concerns from fiscal hawks about certain provisions, such as changes to Medicaid and reductions in green energy subsidies. House Republican leadership is optimistic about the bill’s prospects and remains committed to addressing the nation’s fiscal challenges.
In the midst of these debates and negotiations, it is clear that both Musk and House Republicans have differing perspectives on the best path forward for the country. As the legislative process unfolds, it will be crucial for lawmakers to find common ground and work towards a solution that benefits all Americans.
