Debbie Nelson, Eminem’s Mother Who Inspired His Music, Passes Away at 69

Debbie Nelson, the mother of rapper Eminem, has passed away at the age of 69. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, has often referenced his tumultuous relationship with his mother in his hit songs.

Eminem’s representative Dennis Dennehy confirmed Nelson’s death, although the cause was not disclosed. Nelson had been battling lung cancer.

The rapper’s lyrics have portrayed his complicated feelings towards his mother, with songs like “Cleaning Out My Closet” delving into their troubled past. Despite the rocky relationship, Eminem’s emotions seem to have softened over the years, as seen in songs like “Lose Yourself,” where he references his “mom’s spaghetti.”

Nelson had previously filed defamation lawsuits against Eminem for his statements about her in the media. In her book “My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem,” she aimed to provide a different perspective on their family history.

Eminem, a highly acclaimed artist, recently won the best hip hop act at the 2024 MTV EMAs and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. He also shared the news of becoming a grandfather, as his daughter Hailie Jade is expecting a child.
