EverWind submits application for industrial access to Richmond County water supply

EverWind Fuels, a company aiming to establish a green hydrogen and ammonia production facility in Nova Scotia, has officially submitted an application to the provincial Environment Department for access to a water supply in Richmond County. The application is specifically for an industrial water withdrawal permit for Landrie Lake. Although the Environment Department is currently reviewing the application, no decision has been made as of yet.

The primary goal of EverWind is to utilize wind and solar energy generated in Nova Scotia to extract hydrogen from water taken from the Landrie Lake water utility. The intention is to then export this hydrogen product to Europe. Company spokesperson, Rudee Gaudet, has assured that EverWind is prepared to cover all expenses related to the design, engineering, and construction of the necessary infrastructure for the water supply. Additionally, Gaudet emphasized that the project is not anticipated to have any adverse effects on local water resources, echoing sentiments expressed by Port Hawkesbury Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton.

The proposed water withdrawal from Landrie Lake amounts to 9.5 million liters per day, within the daily capacity of 36.6 million liters at the water utility. Gaudet highlighted that industrial water demand from Landrie Lake has significantly decreased over the years due to the decline in industrial activity in the region. Prior to submitting the application, thorough environmental and hydrology assessments were conducted to ensure the sustainable and safe supply of the lake for EverWind’s needs without impacting others.

Negotiations are currently underway to secure a contract with a buyer for the hydrogen product. EverWind is one of two companies vying to establish a green hydrogen project in Point Tupper, with the other entity being Bear Head Energy.

In conclusion, EverWind Fuels’ initiative to create a green hydrogen and ammonia production facility in Nova Scotia represents a significant step towards sustainable energy production. The company’s commitment to utilizing renewable energy sources and conducting thorough assessments to safeguard water resources demonstrates a dedication to environmentally responsible practices. If approved, this project has the potential to not only contribute to the local economy but also to the global effort towards reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean energy solutions.
