Expert warns of CCP threat as Chinese nationals caught with biological pathogen

In the wake of the recent arrests of two Chinese nationals accused of smuggling a dangerous biological pathogen into the U.S., experts are sounding the alarm about the Chinese Communist Party’s intentions towards America. Michael Sobolik, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute specializing in U.S. and China relations, emphasized that the CCP has a history of targeting Americans and posing threats to U.S. national security.

Sobolik pointed out that the CCP has previously engaged in activities such as smuggling fentanyl precursors into the U.S. and mishandling the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in American deaths. The recent incident involving the smuggling of Fusarium graminearum, a fungus with agroterrorism potential, further highlights the malicious intentions of the Chinese nationals.

The accused individuals were reportedly funded by the Chinese government for their research on the pathogen in China before bringing it to a University of Michigan laboratory. This raises concerns about Chinese nationals infiltrating American universities, as highlighted in a recent report from Stanford University revealing the presence of CCP spies on college campuses.

Sobolik warned that American higher education institutions have become dependent on Chinese funding and international students, many of whom are coerced into spying for the CCP. He urged universities to recognize the threat posed by the CCP and take steps to protect American interests and sovereignty.

The Chinese embassy spokesperson stated that they were unaware of the case involving the two Chinese nationals, emphasizing that the Chinese government expects its citizens abroad to abide by local laws. However, the incident underscores the need for increased vigilance and scrutiny of Chinese activities in the U.S.

As tensions between the U.S. and China continue to escalate, it is essential for American institutions to prioritize national security and safeguard against potential threats from foreign adversaries. By remaining vigilant and proactive, the U.S. can protect its citizens and interests from the insidious tactics of the CCP.
