US Election 2024

Fauci potentially to be deposed as GOP continues investigations into COVID

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is on a mission to uncover the truth behind the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic, and he is not backing down. As the new chairman of the Senate’s Homeland Security committee, Paul has issued subpoenas to 14 agencies from the outgoing Biden administration in an effort to further investigate the virus and the risky gain-of-function research that may have played a role in its emergence.

Paul has made it clear that he is seeking answers from Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). In a statement following the issuance of the subpoenas, Paul expressed his determination to critique the process that allowed such dangerous research to occur and ensure that proper oversight is in place to prevent similar mistakes from happening in the future.

While Fauci was preemptively pardoned by former President Joe Biden, legal experts have raised questions about the validity of such a pardon. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Baily suggested that Biden’s mental capacity could be called into question, potentially undermining the pardon Fauci received. This raises the possibility that Fauci could face criminal charges if he refuses to comply with the congressional subpoena.

Paul’s investigation will build on previous bipartisan probes into high-risk biological research and technology, with a focus on the national security threats posed by such research. A separate investigation led by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., will also delve into concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and review email communications from Fauci.

Since the start of the pandemic, Paul has been relentless in his efforts to uncover the truth about the origins of the virus. His previous inquiries revealed documents indicating that government officials were aware in 2018 of the research being conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in China, where the virus is believed to have originated.

The role of the WIV and American scientist Peter Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance in conducting risky research using taxpayer dollars has been a focal point of the investigation. The Department of Health and Human Services recently barred Daszak and his organization from receiving federal funding for five years.

Fauci has maintained that the NIH does not fund gain-of-function research at the WIV, but questions remain about the true nature of the research being conducted at the lab. The Trump administration is reportedly preparing to halt all U.S. funding for gain-of-function research in response to these concerns.

As federal officials remain divided on the origin of the virus, Paul’s investigation aims to uncover the truth and hold accountable those responsible for any wrongdoing. The American people deserve answers, and Paul is committed to ensuring that the truth comes to light. Dr. Fauci’s role in the research and the handling of the pandemic will be scrutinized, and the investigation will continue until all questions are answered.
