Iran executes man convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency

Iran has recently carried out an execution of a man who was found guilty of spying for Israel, as reported by Iranian state media on Wednesday. The individual in question, Pedram Madani, was hanged following the confirmation of a death sentence by Iran’s supreme court, which had been initially issued by a lower court. According to the official IRNA news agency, Madani had traveled to Israel where he met with Mossad officers to provide them with classified information regarding specific buildings in Iran that housed crucial “infrastructure” equipment.

The reports did not delve into further details but mentioned that Madani had received foreign currency and cryptocurrency in exchange for the sensitive information he shared with Mossad. It was also disclosed that Madani had meetings with Mossad officers at the Israeli Embassy in Belgium. Israel’s security agency refrained from making any immediate comments in response to these revelations.

Madani, aged 41, was apprehended in the year 2020, marking the beginning of a legal process that led to his eventual execution. This incident underscores the escalating trend of executions in Iran in recent times. A watchdog group named Iran Human Rights, based in Norway, reported that over the past 10 days alone, at least 60 individuals have been executed in the country.

This execution of Madani represents the third instance this year where an individual has been put to death on charges of espionage for Israel. These allegations are often based on ambiguous accusations, as highlighted by the organization. In a previous case in April, Iran executed a man who was found guilty of collaborating with Mossad and being involved in the killing of a Revolutionary Guard colonel in Tehran back in 2022.

These developments shed light on the stringent measures taken by the Iranian authorities to combat espionage activities and maintain national security. The execution of Madani serves as a stark reminder of the grave consequences individuals face when found guilty of engaging in espionage against Iran.
